The Cubs offense continues to struggle, this time against Cardinals starter, Michael Wacha & 5 Cardinals relievers. Cardinals defeated the Cubs 2-1 to increase their lead over the Cubs for the NL Central to five games.
Without a doubt, one of the more frustrating games to watch for the Cubs. Kyle Hendricks on the mound against the Cardinals in a critical 4-game series. Cubs make a great comeback to score 3 runs in the 9th inning, but the Cardinals win it on Matt Carpenter's 10th inning, solo home run off Cubs closer, Craig Kimbrel. Anthony Rizzo returned the line-up, but with a noticeable limp from his sprained ankle. Rizzo homered to tie the game 1-1 early on off Cardinals pitcher, Jack Flaherty. The only run that Flaherty gave up in 8 strong innings pitched.
Cubs lose the 3 game series to the Reds 2 games to 1 after taking their 2nd straight loss, 3-2 in 10 innings. For the 2nd straight game, the Cubs offense was quiet. Willson Contreras tied the game 2-2 in the 7th inning, but Jose Iglesias 10th inning RBI wins it for the Reds.
A tough loss for the Cubs on Tuesday at Wrigley Field (9/17/19). Yu Darvish set a Cubs team record striking out 8 consecutive batters and 13 in the game, but he also gave up 3 first inning runs to the Reds in a 4-2 loss. Reds pitcher, Sonny Gray pitched even better to lead the Reds to a 4-2 win over the Cubs. Kyle Schwarber had a double, triple & 2 RBI for the Cubs.
