Kerry Wood in just his 5th major league start strikes out 20 batters in a 2-0 victory over the Astros at Wrigley Field. Wood throws a one-hitter, a Ricky Gutierrez single with the only other baserunner being Craig Biggio who was hit by a pitch.
1998 April 18:
Kerry Wood's ML debut is a victory against the Dodgers, 8-1 at Wrigley Field. Wood throws 5 shutout innings.
1998 October 3:
Kerry Wood makes his postseason debut at Wrigley Field against the Atlanta Braves in game 3 of the NLDS. The cubs trailed the series 2 games to 0 and were facing elimination from the playoffs. Wood pitches well giving up just one run in 5 innings pitched, but facing ex-Cub, Greg Maddux, this wasn't enough as he left the game trailing 1-0 and the Cubs eventually lose the game 6-2 as the Braves advance in the playoffs.
2003 September 30:
Kerry Wood gives the Cubs a 1-0 series lead in the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves going 7 1/3 innings giving up just 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out 11 Atlanta Braves. Wood even goes 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's. Cubs win 4-2
2003 October 5:
Kerry Wood gets the win in the series winner Gm 5 in Atlanta. Wood pitches a solid 8 innings, giving up just 5 hits and one run while striking out 7 Braves hitters.
2003 October 10:
Kerry Wood gets a no decision in Gm 3 of the NLCS against the Florida Marlins. The Cubs take a 2-1 series lead with a 5-4 win. Wood contributes to the victory pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 7 Marlins.
2003 October 15:
Kerry Wood is on the mound for the first game 7 at Wrigley Field since 1945. Wood struggles giving up 7 runs in 5 2/3 innings and the Marlins go on to the 2003 World Series. Wood has a great day with the bat as he hits a 2 run home run to tie the score in the 2nd inning at 3-3.
2004 April 11:Kerry Wood ties a club record with 7 consecutive strikeouts in a 10-2 victory over the Braves in Atltanta
