Happy birthday to Cubs pitcher, Jon Lieber (1999-2002, 2008).

How does Jon Lieber match up with other recent Cubs pitchers?
So, taking a look at Cubs pitchers from 2001 to 2019 (Fangraphs data), you can sort of eliminate comparisons for Jon Lieber with Carlos Zambrano (pitched much longer for the Cubs than Lieber) and Kerry Wood & Ryan Dempster (both had significant bullpen time with the Cubs along with many innings as starters).
Jake Arrieta & Kyle Hendricks overall have put up better numbers than Lieber. Mark Prior's career WAR with the Cubs is closest to Lieber (16.7 to 16.4), but Prior did get there in over 200 fewer innings. With WAR being a cumulative statistic, that seems to put Prior above Lieber as well. But Lieber seems to compare very well with Jon Lester & Ted Lilly.
