December 1 is the birthday of Cubs infielder, Javier Baez
Javier Baez shares a birthday with one of the greatest pitcher’s in Cubs history, Ed Ruelbach. Ruelbach was one of the Cubs top pitcher’s in their last World Series championships in 1907 & 1908.
Javier Baez gets his first career MLB walk-off hit (a home run) in a 13-inning Cubs victory over the Nationals. Cubs walk Bryce Harper 6 times in the game, he was hit by pitch in his only other at bat. Cubs bullpen pitches 8 scoreless innings (Trevor Cahill, Adam Warren, Justin Grimm, Travis Wood).

Baez hits a Grand Slam to seal an extra inning victory
Javier Baez has amazing home run power. It was on display when he hit 4 home runs on June 10, 2013 in a minor league game.
Javier Baez MLB Debut
Baez hit a game winning home run in his MLB debut on August 5, 2014. Here is a nice video with that highlight and clips of Baez and President, Theo Epstein discussing the Cubs young prospect.
I was at Wrigley Field to see Javier Baez first home run at the historic ballpark on August 13, 2014.
Javier Baez Dramatic NLCS Home Run
In 2015, Baez path back to the Cubs major league team was stalled a bit both by his play late in 2014, an injury and the death of his 21 year old sister, Noely. His sister suffered from spina bifida and passed away in April of 2015. Carrie Muskat of the Cubs wrote a very nice article about Baez and his relationship with his sister.
In 2015, Baez didn’t get much playing time with the major league team, but he was added to their playoff roster and when Addison Russell got injured, it gave Baez a chance to start. He made the most of it, hitting a big 3-run home run in the Game 4 clincher against the Cardinals. The first playoff series clincher in Cubs history at Wrigley Field. I got to see this one in person as well. A baseball game I will always remember!!
Another close pennant race for the Cubs in 2019. they are locked in a close struggle with the Nationals, Cardinals & Brewers for NL Central & wild card
