Ron CeyHapppy Birthday Ron Cey (Cubs, 1983-1986)

Ron Cey

Birthday: February 15

When Dallas Green was named General Manager of the Cubs, he received a lot of criticism for only bringing in players from his former team, the Philadelphia Phillies, however Green did make a great move picking up veteran 3B Ron Cey from the Los Angeles Dodgers prior to the 1983 season.

Cey had one of the more unique nicknames being known as "The Penguin". If you saw him run on the bases, you would know how he got this nickname!! Cey had already became known as one of the better power hitting 3B with the Dodgers and he came to the Cubs on a 4-year deal turning 35 years old for the 1983 season with the Cubs. His first 2 years with the Cubs were very productive with his statistics regressing a bit the final two years with the team before being traded to the Oakland A's after the 1986 season.
