Cubs history, 1930's

The 1930s were a very eventful time for the Chicago Cubs. Hack Wilson sets HR and RBI records in 1930 while leaving the team not much after that. The Cubs make it to the 1932, 1935 and 1938 World Series.

The Cubs top players were Gabby Harnett, Kiki Cuyler, Billy Herman, Frank Demaree and Riggs Stephenson with the top pitchers being Bill Lee, Lou Warneke and Charlie Root.

1938 September 28 Cubs take the lead in the NL with a 6=5 victory over Pirates. Gabby Hartnett's Homer in the Gloamin.
1938 September 27 Dizzy Dean defeat the Pirates in the first of a 3 game series to bring the Cubs to within 1/2 game of the Pirates.
1938 September 22 Bill Lee pitches his 4th consecutive shutout.
1938 September 5 Cubs defeat Pirates in both games of a doublehead in Pittsburgh (Forbes Field) to move within 5 games of the NL leading Pirates.
1938 July 20 Cubs fire Charlie Grimm and name current catcher, Gabby Hartnett as manager.
1936 August 21 Bill Lee wins his 15th consecutive game, a team record at the time.

1935 September 25 Cubs clinch NL pennant with a 1-0 victory over Cardinals at Sportsman Park. Lou Warneke wins his 20th game and the Cubs win their 19th game in a row.
1935 September 14 Cubs take over first place in NL with a 18-14 victory over the Dodgers in Wrigley Field. The victory is their 11th consecutive victory.
1935 September 4 Cubs defeat Phillies 8-2 at Wrigley Field for the first victory in their 21 game winning streak. At the time, the Cubs trailed the Cardinals by 2 1/2 games in the NL.
1935 July 1 The Cubs play their first road night game, defeating the Reds 8-4 in Crosley Field.
1935 May 20 Babe Ruth's first appearance at Wrigley Field as a NL player. Goes 0 for 2, but hits a HR the next day.
1935 May 12 Pitcher, Lou Warneke defeats Braves 4-1 and goes 4 for 4 at the plate.
1935 April 29 Losing 9-2 going into the 8th inning, the Cubs score 10 runs to win the game 12-11.
1934 December 19 Joe Dimaggio signs with Yankees. Cubs could have signed him instead.
1934 May 7 Bill Lee's ML debut is a 4 hit shutout.

1930 September 20 Hack Wilson drives in his 176th run of the season breaking Lou Gehrig's ML record.
