I guess we should've known early on that it was going to be a good year for the Cubs as
opening night versusu the Angels went so well.
Dexter Fowler led off the Cubs season with a double and scored in the first inning, got
3 hits and scored 3 runs in the game. Jake Arrieta went 7 innings, giving up just 2 hits
as Cubs easily defeated the Angels 9-0.

Well, Cubs won this game 14-6, but the story was the injury to Kyle Schwarber, who collided with
Dexter Fowler and sustained an injury that made this his last regular season game of 2016. But,
this story has an amazing happy ending as Schwarber is able to return to hit only in the World Series
and helps the Cubs get their first World Series championship in 108 years. Schwarber was only able
to play designated hitter in the 4 games played in Cleveland.

The Cubs home opener in 2016 was an exciting game. The Reds Brandon Finnegan was pitching a no-hitter into
the 7th inning until a David Ross single. Later in the inning, Jason Heyward drove in the first 2 runs for
the Cubs to cut the lead to 3-2.
That set the stage for Addison Russell to be the hero with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning. I can
still remember the excitement when Russell clapped his hands together after watching the ball fly into the left field
bleachers at Wrigley!!!
Hector Rondon shuts down the Reds in the 9th and the Cubs sing "Go Cubs Go" for the first of many times in 2016.

Jake Arrieta continues his amazing winning streak, winning his 5th game of the season without a loss
after winning his last 11 games of 2015. His streak of 52 2/3 innings without giving up a run at
Wrigley Field does end when Alex Presley drives in a Brewers run in the 5th inning,
but Arrieta and the Cubs coast to a 7-2 victory. David Ross homers for the Cubs.
