At Shea Stadium, Rick Sutcliffe wins his 12th consecutive decision in a 6-0 Cubs win over the Mets.  Sutcliffe pitches a 4-hit complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts and at the plate has 2 hits & 2 RBI.

Jimmy Ryan's grand slam helps the Chicago White Stockings (Cubs) defeat the Giants 12-3 at West Side Park.

September 8, 1968

At Wrigley Field, Billy Williams goes 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI as the Cubs defeat the Phillies 10-3.

September 8, 1977
Cubs defeat the Expos 3-2 in 10 innings on Bill Buckner's walk-off SF.  Bruce Sutter pitches 3 scoreless innings and strikes out 6 to earn the win including striking out the side on 9 pitches in the 9th.

In St. Louis, the Cubs defeat the Cardinals 8-5.  Starlin Castro goes 2 for 3 with a walk, double, home run, 3 runs scored & 4 RBI.  It is the Cubs 5th straight win.
