At Shae Stadium, Rick Reuschel pitches a 3-hit complete game shutout as the Cubs defeat the Mets 3-0.

Game 1, world Series
Babe Ruth and the Red Sox defeat the Cubs and Hippo Vaughn 1-0 at
Comiskey Park.  The Cubs used Comiskey because the stadium had
a higher seating capacity than Weeghman Park (Wrigley Field).

September 5, 1919
At Forbes Field, the Cubs defeat the Pirates 2-0 as Hippo Vaughn pitches a 5-hit shutout.

September 5, 1931
Hack Wilson's career with the Cubs ends as he is suspended after an incident that ends with Wilson and Pat Malone beating up reporters.  Wilson will be traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in the offseason. 

September 5, 1951, game 1
Cubs defeat Cardinals 3-2 in 11 innings.  Smokey Burgess gets the walk-off RBI single.   Bob Kelly pitches all 11 innings to earn the victory.  Game 1 of a doubleheader.  Cardinals defeat Cubs 6-5 in game 2 that ends after 8 innings.

At Wrigley Field, Willie Mays homers for the Giants, Billy Williams accounts for the 2 Cubs runs with 2 home runs and Juan Marichal pitches a complete game in a 4-2 Giants win over the Cubs.

September 5, 1966, game 1
Trailing 4-3 into the 9th inning, Glenn Beckert wins it for Cubs with a 2-run walk-off, 2 out single.  Cubs defeat Phillies 5-4 at Wrigley Field.  

September 5, 1969
At Wrigley Field, Steve Blass is nearly perfect against the Cubs, except for Billy Williams & Don Kessinger.  Kessinger walks twice & Billy Williams goes 4 for 4 with 2 home runs.  No one else in the Cubs lineup reaches base.

At Candlestick Park in San Francisco, the Cubs defeat the Giants 8-2.  Bill Buckner goes 3 for 5 with a double, home run & 4 RBI.  

September 5, 1993
Cubs trail 1-0 in the 9th facing John Franco and the Mets when Glenallen Hill wins it for the Cubs with a 2-run, walk-off home run.

At Citi Field, Derrek Lee homers twice and Aramis Ramirez homers as well to lead the Cubs to a 5-3 win over the Mets. 

September 5, 2015
Jake Arrieta and the Cubs defeat the Diambondbacks 2-0 at Wrigley Field.  Arrieta pitches 8 scoreless innings and strikes out 7 batters with no walks.

Cubs & Brewers are tied 4-4 going into the 6th inning when the Cubs score 5 runs to take the lead.  Kyle Schwarber hits a grand slam.  Anthony Rizzo has 3 RBI and Willson Contreras goes 4 for 5 with a home run, 2 runs scored &
