Jerry Mumphrey's 11th inning RBI single is the walk-off winner as Cubs defeat the Expos 5-4 at Wrigley Field in game 1 of a DH.  Rick Sutcliffe pitches all 11 innings to earn the win.

In Busch Stadium, the Cardinals defeat the Cubs 11-6 as Gene Baker makes his major league debut.  Baker was Ernie Bank's teammate with the Kansas City Monarchs.  Banks also hits his first major league home run and his first
triple in the losing effort.

Dodgers tie Cubs 2-2 with 2 runs in top of 9th on Don Demeter's 2-out, 2-run HR, but Bobby Thomson gives cubs a walk-off 3-2 victory on his walk-off home run.

At Wrigley Field, a great pitcher's duel between the Cubs, Dick Ellsworth and the Braves Denny Lemaster as there is no score until 2 outs in bottom of the 8th inning when Andre Rodgers home run gives the Cubs a 1-0 win.
