The Chicago Cubs and the Boston Braves combine for 8 double plays (5 for the Cubs, 3 for the Braves). A National League record at the time.  The Cubs defeat the Braves 8-3 at Braves Field.

September 18, 1929
Cubs lose to the Giants 7-3 at Wrigley Field, but when the Pirates lose to the
Braves, the Cubs cline the NL pennant and a trip to the World Series. 

September 18, 1959
3 Cubs RP pitch 5 scoreless innings to allow Irv Noren's walk-off RBI single
in the 13th inning at Wrigley Field.  Cubs defeat Phillies 5-4. 

September 18, 1963
Billy Cowan hits his first MLB home run, a ninth inning, 2-run, 2-out home run to give the Cubs a 2-1 over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  

September 18, 1970
The Cubs sweep a doubleheader from the Montreal Expos in Jerry Parc.  In game one,  Fergie Jenkins gets the win for his 20th victory of the season and Billy Williams hits his 40th home run of the season.

Cubs sweep the Mets in a doubleheader at Shae Stadium.  Dave Kingman drives in both runs in a 2-0 Cubs victory.  Rick Reuschel & Bruce Sutter combine on a 4-hitter.  In game 2, Kingman drives in the winning run in the 11th inning in a 2-1 Cubs victory.  Bill Caudill, Dick Tidrow & Bruce Sutter also combine on a 4-hitter. 

September 18, 1982
Cubs overcome a 7-0 deficit scoring 3 runs in the sixth inning and 7 runs in the 8th inning.  Bump Wills pinch-hit 3-run home run gives the Cubs a 10-7 lead.

September 18, 1989
Cubs defeat the Mets 10-6 at Wrigley Field.  Mitch Williams gets his first MLB hit, a home run.  

September 18, 1999
Sammy Sosa becomes the first player in major league history to hit 60 home runs in more than one season connecting on his 60th home run against Jason Bere of the Milwaukee Brewers.  The Brewers defeat the Cubs 7-4 in 14 innings at Wrigley Field.

At Great American Ball Park, Moises Alou homers twice as the Reds defeat the Cubs 6-5.

At Citizen's Bank Park, Aramis Ramirez hits two 3-run home runs and drives in 7 runs as the Cubs defeat the Phillies 11-6. 

September 18, 2008
Trailing 6-2 into the bottom of the ninth inning, Cubs score 4 runs to tie the game and win the game in the 12th inning on a walk-off single by Derrek Lee.  Mark DeRosa singles with 2 outs in the ninth inning and scores Geovany Soto's 3-run home run ties the game in the 9th.

At Wrigley Field, Starlin Castro homers twice and drives in 6 runs as the Cubs defeat the Cardinals 8-3.

September 18, 2020

Willson Contreras' first inning RBI single driving in Anthony Rizzo is the only run of the game as the Cubs defeat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 at Wrigley Field.

Kyle Hendricks gives up just 3 hits over 8 innings, striking out 10 with just one walk.  Jeremy Jeffress earns the save.
