September 11, 1973
At Wrigley Field, Cubs defeat the Pirates 2-0 behind a 4-hit shutout by Burt Hooton.  Cubs collect only 3 hits.

September 11, 1918
The Red Sox defeat the Cubs in game 6 of the 1918 World Series to defeat the Cubs 4 games to 2.  Carl Mays wins the 2nd game of the series while Babe Ruth defeats the Cubs twice as well.  The series was all about pitching, as the Cubs actually outscored the Red Sox 10-9 in a six game series.  And, of course, history wasn't kind to either the Red Sox or the Cubs.  The Red Sox went without another World Series title for 86 years (2004) and the Cubs waited another 98 years before their 2016 World Series championship.

September 11, 1934
At Braves Field in Boston, Bill Lee pitches a 6-hit shutout as the Cubs defeat the Braves 2-0.

September 11, 1967
In Houston, the Astros defeat the Cubs 11-10.  Don Kessinger goes 3 for
6 with a triple & 3 RBI.  His 9th inning, 2-run single brings the Cubs
within one run, but the Cubs cannot drive him in to tie the game. 

September 11, 1968
Fergie Jenkins loses 1-0 for the 5th time this season, an MLB record, in the
year of the pitcher.

September 11, 1971
At Wrigley Field, Juan Pizarro pitches a 6-hit complete game shutout and Paul Popovich hits a grand slam in a 7-0 Cubs win over the Cardinals. 

September 11, 1973

At Turner Field, Derrek Lee homers twice, one against John Smoltz as the Cubs defeat the Braves 8-3.

At Citizen Banks Park, the Cubs sweep a doubleheader against the Phillies. in game 2, Kyle Schwarber homers twice.

September 11, 2018
Jose Quintana and 3 Cubs relievers shut out the Brewers 3-0 at Wrigley Field.  Victor Caratini goes 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI.
