Don Cardwell, in his first game pitched for the Chicago Cubs, pitches a no-hitter defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 in the 2nd game of a double-header. Cardwell walked just one batter, Alex Grammas with just one out in the first inning and retired the next 26 batters.

Ouch, tough luck loss for Dick Ellsworth as he has a no-hitter through 7 innings, but after 2 batters reach base (one on a Ron Santo error), Ellsworth gives up the only hit the Dodgers get all day, but it's a 3-run pinch-hit home run to Al Ferrara. 

Dodgers defeat Cubs 3-1 at Dodger Stadium.

At Wrigley Field, Randy Hundley goes 3 for 3 with a double & 2 RBI as Cubs defeat the Giants 6-4.   The game is shortened to 7 innings.

May 15, 1988
At Houston, the Cubs defeat the Astros 2-1. Rick Sutcliffe pitches a complete game, giving up just 5 hits to earn the win.

May 15, 1990
At Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta, the Cubs defeat the Braves 12-2.  Andre Dawson hits 2 home runs, goes 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored & 4 RBI.

When Kerry Wood & Ben Sheets started this game in Milwaukee, it could have been easy to predict a pitcher's duel, but this was definitely a game that the pitching dominated.  The score is tied 1-1 after nine innings and ends up going 17 innings before the Cubs score 2 runs in the 17th inning to defeat the Brewers 4-2.

Wood strikes out 13, Sheets strikes out 8.  The Cubs strike out 24 Brewers in the game and the Brewers strike out 14 Cubs hitters.  The 24 strikeout is is a NL record for most strikeouts in one game.

Corey Patterson's 2-run home run in the 17th inning is the game-winner.
