Cubs defeat Padres 1-0 as Steve Renko & Joe Coleman combine on a 3-hit shutuout against  the Padres at Wrigley Field.

  • Happy birthday to another former Cubs with a great nickname, Rich "Goose" Gossage.

At Braves Field, the Cubs and Hank Wyse defeat the Braves 3-2.  Wyse pitches a complete game and gives up 7 hits and 2 runs.

Andre Thornton hits a walk-off home run as Cubs defeat Braves 3-2 at Wrigley Field.

Lee Smith gets first MLB hit, a HR (and his only MLB home run) against Phil Niekro as the Cubs lose 7-5 to the Braves in Atlanta.

At Candlestick Park in San Francisco, the Cubs defeat the Giants 9-3.
Ron Cey homers twice and drives in 3 runs.

Rick Wilkens 2 home runs and 4 RBI help the Cubs get an early 6-0 lead
on their way to a 10-1 win over the Rockies at Coor Field in Colorado.
Mike Harkey pitches 8 strong innings to earn the win.

At Wrigley Field, Cubs pull to within one game against the Cardinals in NL Central after coming back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Cardinals 6-5. Alex Gonzalez delivers a 2-out, bases loaded, walk-off single.

At St. Louis, the Cardinals defeat the Cubs 5-4.  Mark Derosa goes 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, a triple, HR and an RBI.

Marlon Byrd is only Cubs player named to All-Star team.

Kyle Hendricks and two Cubs relivers combine on a 5-hit shutout as the Cubs defeat the Marlins 2-0 at Wrigley Field.

Cubs hit 4 home runs, 2 by Addison Russell in a 9-5 loss at Wrigley Field.
Javier Baez & Kris Bryant homer as well for Cubs.

At Wrigley Field, John Jay's 3-run home run in the 6th inning tie the Cubs and Rays 3-3.  Ian Happ drives in 2 runs with a single in the 7th inning to give the Cubs the lead.  Cubs defeat the Rays 7-3.
