July 17, 1966
In 2nd game of a doubleheader, the Cubs defeat Cardinals 7-2 as Billy Williams  hits for the cycle with a single, double, triple, home run, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI. Ken Holtzman gets the victory and Fergie Jenkins pitches a perfect 2 innings in relief to earn a save.

Happy birthday to Don Kessinger.
 
He played shortstop for the Cubs from 1964-1975 and was an All-Star 6 times and won 2 Gold Gloves.

The birthday of Cubs radio announcer I grew up listening to, Lou Boudreau. Boudreau began announcing Cubs games in 1958. He managed the Cubs in 1960 and went back to the booth to announce Cubs games until 1987.


July 17, 1956
Trailing 2-0 into the bottom of the 9th inning, Cubs tie the game on Hobie Landrith's home run & Ernie Banks RBI single.  Turk Lown pitches 7 scoreless innings for the Cubs to allow Gene Baker to win it for the Cubs with a walk-off RBI single in the 16th inning for a 3-2 Cubs victory over the Phillies at Wrigley Field.

July 17, 1959
Art Ceccerelli pitches a 6-hit shutout and scores the only run of the game as the Cubs defeat the Reds 1-0 at Wrigley Field.

July 17, 1966

At Dodger Stadium, the Cubs defeat the Dodgers 10-0.  Dickie Noles pitches a 7-hit complete game shutout.

Keith Moreland homers twice in a 6-5 loss to the Padres at Wrigley Field.

At Wrigley Field, Cubs defeat the Brewers 5-0.  Greg Maddux pitches a 6-hit complete game shutout.
