In Atlanta, George Altman's 2-run RBI single helps the Cubs defeat the Braves 4-2 in 14 innings.

August 29, 1914, game 1
At West Side Grounds, Hippo Vaughn throws a 4-hit shutout against the
Giants as Cubs win 1-0.  Giants split the doubleheader with a 7-5 victory
in game 2.

August 29, 1918
Cubs sweep a doubleheader with the Reds 1-0 & 6-4.

Lefty Tyler throws the shutout and Claude Hendrix's victory in game 2 is his
20th of the season.

In 1918, MLB shortened the season due to the War effort.  The Cubs
will face the Red Sox (and Babe Ruth pitching) in the World Series.

August 29, 1925
Wrigley Field in Los Angeles opens.

August 29, 1930

Cubs score 5 runs in the 9th to tie the Cardinals and after Cardinals
scored 3 runs in the 11th, Cubs score 4 to complete a 9-8 walk-off

August 29, 1934
After pitching a complete game 3-hitter against the Giants three days
earlier, Lon Warneke pitches another complete game 3-hitter, this one
a shutout as the Cubs defeat the Giants 1-0.  Kiki Cuyler wins it with
a walk-off RBI double in the 9th inning.

Cubs defeat Dodgers 4-3 with 2-run ninth inning rally, Jimmie Foxx's SF ties game & Stan Hack wins it with a walk-off RBI single. 

August 29, 1959
Ernie Banks hits a grand slam off Warren Spahn, but Braves defeat
the Cbs 11-4 at Wrigley Field.  Hank Aaron hits 2 home runs for
the Braves.

Cubs 4 Mets 3, 10 innings
Ellis Burton's walk-off RBI single in 10th inning helps Cubs defeat Mets 4 to 3 at Wrigley Field.  ]

August 29, 1965
At County Stadium in Milwaukee, Cubs HOF'ers Ernie Banks, Ron Santo & Billy Williams have a big day.  the 3 of them hit 5 HR's (2 each by Santo & Banks).  They score all 10 Cubs runs, have 7 hits, drive in 9 of the 10 runs with 4 walks.  Cubs defeat the Braves 10-2.

At Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, Mel Hall homers twice, one a grand slam
as the Cubs defeat the Braves 7-5. 

August 29, 1985
At Wrigley Field, Leon Durham homers twice, one against the guy he was traded for, Bruce Sutter, as the Braves defeat the Cubs 9-6.

Astros take a 9-0 lead over Cubs early, but Cubs come back to
tie game & Dwight Smith completes the comeback with a walk-off
RBI single.  Lloyd Mcclendon has 3 hits, 3 RBI and a HR>

At Dodger Stadium, Kyle Farnsworth pitches a 2-hit complete game shutout
as Cubs defeat Dodgers 6-0.  It is Farnsworth's 1st and only MLB shutout
of his 16 year MLB career.

August 29, 2002
Mark Bellhorn becomes only the 2nd player in ML history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same inning (4th) in a 13-10 victory over the
Brewers in Milwaukee.  Bellhorn connects for the first homer against Jose
Cabrera and the 2nd against former Cub Andrew Lorraine.

August 29, 2005
At Wrigley Field, Jeromy Burnitz homers twice as the Dodgers defeat the cubs 9-6. 

August 29, 2008
Cubs overcome an early 2-0 lead by the Phillies, taking the lead on Alfonso Soriano's 7th inning home run for a 3-2 victory.  It is the Cub's 7th win in a row, giving them a 6 1/2 game lead in the Central division with an 85-50 record.

August 29, 2009
Cubs take the lead with a 6-run fifth inning led by Jake Fox's grand slam as the Cubs defeat the Mets 11-4. 

August 29, 2011
At AT&T Park, Randy Wells pitches a 2-hit complete game shutout as the Cubs defeat the Giants 7-0.

August 29, 2014 
At Busch Stadium, Jorge Soler continues his great debut with the Cubs
hitting 2 home runs in a 7-2 Cubs win. 

August 29, 2016
Jorge Soler's 9th inning HR sends game into extra innings and Cubs come back in 13th inning to score 2 to win it on Miguel Montero's walk-off RBI single.  Cubs defeat Pirates 8-7

August 29, 2017
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs defeat the Pirates 4-1.  Jake Arrieta gives up just 2 hits and no runs over 6 innings.  

August 29, 2019
Cubs finish off a 3-game sweep of the Mets at Citi Field in New York.  Victor Caratini ties the game in the 2nd inning with a home run off Jacob Degrom, the 2019 NL Cy Young Award winner.  Caratini completes a great game with a 3-run homer in the 7th off Degrom to drive in all 4 Cubs runs in a 4-1 victory.  

August 29, 2020

Two of the best pitchers in the NL match-up as Yu Darvish pitches for the cubs against the Reds and Trevor Bauer in the first of two 7-inning games.  Cubs come in to the game with a 3 game losing streak and the Reds have a 3-game winning streak.  Darvish does not look as dominant as he has in previous games, but continues to get out of jams as the Reds cannot get the big hit with runners on base.  Anthony Rizzo hits 2 home runs off Bauer and the Cubs win game 1 of the doubleheader 3-0.  

In the 2nd game of the doubleheader, the Cubs blow a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning as Craig Kimbrel walks 3 battes and the Reds win it on a passed ball.

Both the Cubs and Reds get a leadoff home run.  Ian Happ homers off Reds pitcher, Teejay Antone & Joey Votto homers to lead off the Reds first inning with a homer off Alec Mills.  The last time the Cubs and their opponent both led off the first inning with home runs was May 1, 2018 when Charlie Blackmon led off the Rockies first inning with a home run and Anthony Rizzo homered to lead off the Cubs first inning.  The Rockies defeated the Cubs at Wigley Field 3-1.  

The last time the Cubs and Reds both had lead off the game home runs in the same game was September 29, 1892.  Jimmy Ryan homered for the Cubs (Chicago Colts) and Bug Holliday homered for the Reds.  The Cubs defeated the Reds 10-4 at League Park in Cincinnati.
