Bill Nicholson has a big day, but Cubs get swept in a doubleheader against the Pirates.  For the day, Nicholson homers 3 times, 2 doubles and a single.  

August 15, 1945
At Ebbetts Field, Cubs defeat the Dodgers 20-6.  Paul Gillespie goes 3 for 3 with a walk, 2 home runs (one a grand slam) and 6 RBI. 

August 15, 1946, game 2
At Wrigley Field, Hank Wyse and the Cubs defeat the Reds 3-2.  Wyse pitches 8 scoreless innings, before giving up 2 runs and hang on to earn the victory.

In 2nd game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium, the Cubs defeat the Mets 6-5 to get a split as Leon Durham homers twice for the Cubs.

At Busch Stadium, Sammy Sosa homers twice but Cubs blow an early 5-2 lead and lose on a walk-off 2-run single by Craig Paquette.

The Cubs defeat the Astros 5-1 in Houston.  Jon Lieber pitches his 2nd straight complete game, and a 3-hitter, striking out 4 with no walks.
