Kerry Wood becomes the quickest MLB pitcher to reach 1,000 strikeouts.  Wood gets to 1,000 in 134 games.  He breaks Roger Clemens record of 143 games.

August 11, 1923
In the 1st game of a doubleheader, Gabby Hartnett hits a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.  Cubs defeat the Phillies 5-4. 

August 11, 1929
Cubs defeat the Braves 3-1 as Charlie Root pitches a complete game for the victory and Rogers Hornsby drives in all 3 runs with a single, double & home run. 

August 11, 1941

At Sportsman's Park, the Cubs lose to the Cardinals 7-5 and for the first time in team history, 3 Cubs hit back to back to back home runs in the 5th inning when Phil Cavaretta, Stan Hack & Bill Nicholson

August 11, 1944
Dodgers defeat Cubs 7-6 in Brooklyn.  Andy Pafko has 2 hits and drive in 3 runs for the Cubs.

August 11, 1945

Cubs pitcher, Claude Passeau takes a no-hitter two outs into the 8th inning until giving up a single to Phil Masi.  Passeau gives up one more hit in completing a 2-hit shutout in a 8-0 Cubs victory Braves Field in Boston.

August 11, 1953
Cubs defeat the Reds 1-0 at Wrigley Field.  Paul Minner pitches a 3-hit complete game shutout. 

August 11, 1961
Warren Spahn of the Braves beats the Cubs 2 - 1 for his 300th career win

August 11, 1966
Randy Hundley hits for the cycle and drives in 3 runs in a 9-8 win over the Astros in 11 innings.  The Astros win the 2nd game by the same score and is finished on 8/26/65

August 11, 1968
Don Kessinger gets 5 hits and Billy William's 2nd home run,  a 3-run shot gives the Cubs an 8-5 win in 15 innings at Crosley Field. 

August 11, 1972
Milt Pappas pitches a great game, going the distance in a 7-2 win over the Mets at Wrigley Field.  Pappas has a great game at the plate as well, going 3 for 3 with a walk, 2 singles, a home run and 5 RBI. 

August 11, 1989
Ryne Sandberg ties record held by Stan Hack hitting a HR in his 5th consecutive game, 9-2 win over Phillies in Wrigley.

August 11, 1991
4 Cub RP (Assenmacher, Lancaster, McElroy, Boskie) pitch 7 scoreless innings to help Cubs come back to defeat the Mets 3-2 in 14 inning
on George Bell's walk-off home run.

At Coors Field, the Cubs homer 5 times, 2 by Corey Patterson, 1 each by Joe Girardi, Fred McGriff & Sammy Sosa (a grand slam) as Cubs defeat the Rockies 12-9.

Cubs 4 Cardinals 3, Anthony Rizzo walk-off walk.  Mike Montgomery 2 IP in relief to get win.  10th straight Cubs win.

August 11, 2020

Cubs return to Progressive Field in Cleveland bringing back memories of the 2016 World Series and game 7.  Jason Kipnis returns to play against his former Indians teammates as a Cub.  

Jon Lester pitches a strong six innings, giving up just 3 hits and one earned run. Cubs break the game open in the 6th inning, scoring 5 runs, 3 on Jason Heyward's 3-run home run.  Heyward goes 3 fo 4 with 4 RBI.  Ryan Tepea & Colin Rea pitch 3 strong relief innings as the Cubs defeat the Indians 6-1.
