Cubs Birthdays:

Rogers Hornsby:

Rogers Hornsby was one of the greatest players in MLB history, but most of his great career was spent with the Cardinals.

But 1929 remains one of the best years in Cubs history primarily because of Hornsby. The Cubs gave up 5 players and $200,000 to acquire Hornsby prior to the 1929 season.  Hornsby hit 39 home runs and drove in 143 and scored an amazing 157 runs. His efforts helped lead the team to a NL title and World Series appearance in 1929.

The Cubs lost this World Series in 5 games to the Philadelphia A's. Hornsby was also the Cubs player manager in 1932 when the Cubs went to another World Series, losing this one to the Yankees. Hornsby was just a part-time player at this point in his career.
