A great beginning to Fergie Jenkins Cubs career. Jenkins comes in to relieve Bob Hendley and pitches 5 1/3 scoreless innings, picks up the win and drives in both runs for the Cubs with his first home run as a Cub and a single driving in Randy Hundley. Both hits were off Hall of Famer, Don Sutton as the Cubs hand Sutton the first of 13 consecutive losses he'll have against the Cubs. Cubs win over the Dodgers at Wrigley Field, 2-0.
April 23, 1968
A great Cubs trade as they pick up Jim Hickman and Phil Regan for Jim Ellis and Ted Savage.
The Cubs of the late 1960's was a great lineup with HOF's, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Ernie Banks & Billy Williams. The team got even better with this trade. Jim Hickman and Phil Regan were 2 very productive players for the Cubs in the late 1960's/early 1970's.
Hickman was an all-star in 1970 and hit 32 home runs and drove in 115 runs that year.
Phil Regan was one of the early Cubs "closers" and led the NL with 25 saves in 1968 and in 1969 had a 12-6 record
with the Cubs and saved 17 games.
