Cubs lose their home opener to the Reds 7-3. 

April 22, 1914 
Cubs lose their home opener 4-3 to the Reds. 

April 22, 1920 
In the Cubs home opener, Turner Barber's RBI double gives the Cubs a 4-3 win over the Reds in 11 innings.

April 22, 1930 
In the Cubs home opener, the Cardinals defeat the Cubs 8-3. 

April 22, 1934
Lon Warneke of the Cubs pitches his second consecutive one-hitter, beating the St. Louis Cardinals and Dizzy Dean, 15 - 2, at Sportsman's Park. On April 17, 1934, Warneke's 1-hitter against the Reds, the Wrigley Field home opener, was even better as he shut out the Reds and struck out 13 batters in the game.  His early season consecutive scoreless inning streak will end
on April 27, 1934 when the Cardinals score a run, but Warneke does go 3-0 for the year pitching all 11 innings in a 3-2 win over the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.   Warneke will win 22 games for the 1934 Cubs. 

April 22, 1938
Cardinals defeat the Cubs 6-5 in the Cubs home opener at Wrigley Field.  Cubs blow a 5-2 lead in the 9th, giving up 4 runs to the Cardinals.  Enos Slaughter's 3-run triple is the big hit in the inning.   
April 22, 1950
Cubs begin the season with their third win in a row on a 9th inning, walk-off home run by Roy Smalley.

April 22, 1960 
Giants defeat the Cubs 10-8 in the home opener at Wrigley Field.  They hit 5 home runs, 2 by Jim Davenport. 

April 22, 1976
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs defeat the Expos 5-4 in 11 innings on Mike Adams walk-off, RBI single driving in Jerry Morales

April 22, 1980
Cardinals have a 12-6 lead after scoring a run in the top of the 5th inning, but
the Cubs come back to score the next 10 runs and win the game 16-12.

Barry Foote ties the game at 12-12 with a home run in the 8th inning and
than wins the game with a walk-off grand slam with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning.

For the day, Foote goes 4 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 8 RBI. Ivan Dejesus has 5 hits, including a home run and Jerry Martin scores 4 runs, batting in front of Barry Foote in the lineup.

Cubs defeat the Cardinals 16-12 at Wrigley Field. 

April 22, 1987
Trailing 3-0 to the Cardinals in St. Louis, Andre Dawson's grand slam in the 7th inning helps the Cubs defeat the Cardinals 5-4.
April 22, 2008
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs win their 5th game in a row with an 8-1 victory over the Mets.  Ronny Cedeno hits a grand slam, Ted Lilly and 3 Cubs relief pitchers combine on a 5-hitter.

April 22, 2017
Cubs defeat the Reds 12-8 at Great American Ball Park.  Anthony Rizzo homers and drives in 3, Jason Heyward & Willson Contreras both homer and drive in 4 runs.

April 22, 2018
Javier Baez homers, doubles and drives in 3 runs.  Albert Almora makes several great catches in center field.  The Rockies come back to make it a close game, but Cubs get the final out of the game on a reversed call with Nolan Arenado being called out at the plate on a wild pitch.
