Cubs home opener at Wrigley Field.  The Reds defeat the Cubs 9-6. 

April 18 1944 
Cubs open the season on the road against the Reds at Crosley Field.  Hank Wyse pitches a 5-hit complete game shutout.  Cubs manage just 3 hits, but win 3-0. 

April 18 1950 
Cubs open the season on the road at Crosley Field and defeat the Reds 9-6.  Andy Pafko has 3 hits, a home run and 4 RBI.  Preston Ward homers and drives in 3 runs. 

April 18, 1952
Lou Boudreau announces his first game for the Cubs. In the Cubs home opener for the season and trailing 4-1 going into the ninth inning, the Cubs score 4 runs to defeat the Cardinals 5-4.  Bill Serena's pinch hit double with the bases loaded is the game winning walk-off hit.

April 18 1958 
Cubs defeat the Cardinals 11-6 in their home opener for the season.

Cubs lose their home opener to the Pirates 4-0.  Rick Rhoden and 3 Pirate relievers shut out the Cubs on 9 hits. 

April 18, 1998
Kerry Wood gets his first major league victory for the Cubs against the Dodgers at Wrigley Field. In the first inning, he gives up a single to Eric Young and than picks him off from first base. In the bottom of the first
inning, the Cubs get 8 runs off the Dodgers, Hideo Nomo and Wood even contributes with an RBI single and scoring a run.

Wood pitches 5 solid innings, giving up 4 hits, striking out 7 batters and walking 3, giving up no runs. The Cubs defeat the Dodgers 8-1.

April 18 2004 
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs and Reds combine for 8 home runs (2 by Adam Dunn & Sammy Sosa, 1 each by Ryan Freel, Austin Kearns & Moises Alou) as the Reds defeat the Cubs 11-10. 
April 18, 2009
Cubs defeat the Cardinals 7-5 on an 11th inning, walk-off 2-run home run by Aramis Ramirez.

April 18, 2011
Carlos Zambrano and Tim Stauffer of the Padres have a pitcher's duel at Wrigley Field as the game goes into the 10th inning 0-0 when Tyler Colvin's pinch-hit, walk-off RBI double scores Geovany Soto for a 1-0 Cubs victory.  Zambrano strikes out 10 batters in 8 scoreless innings.  Carlos Marmol gets the win. 

April 18, 2015
Cubs blow a 6-2 lead in the 9th inning when the Padres score 4 to tie the game,  but Starlin Castro wins it for the Cubs with a walk-off RBI single.

At Wrigley Field, John Lackey strikes out 11 Cardinals in 7 innings against his former team as the Cubs defeat the Cardinals 5-0.  Dexter Fowler homers for the Cubs. 

April 18, 2017
Cubs make a nice comeback from a 7-4 deficit to defeat the Brewers 9-7 at Wrigley Field.  Kyle Schwarber & Miguel Montero homer for the Cubs and Cubs bullpen pitches 5 1/3 innings giving up just one run to let the offense come back and win this one.
