At Wrigley Field, the Cubs defeat the Cardinals 4-3 in the season opener.  Gabby Hartnett's 8th inning RBI double breaks a 3-3 tie for the Cubs win. 

April 16, 1940 
In the season opener, the Reds defeat the Cubs 2-1 in Cincy. 

April 16, 1946
In the season opener at Crosley Field, the Cubs come back from a 3-0
deficit and score 4 runs in the 9th inning to defeat the Reds 4-3.

Bob Scheffing's bases loaded 2-RBI single is the game-winner.

At Wrigley Field, the Milwaukee Braves defeat the Cubs 4-1 in the season opener.   

April 16, 1970
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs defeat the Phillies 6-5.  Randy Hundley's walk-off RBI single scores Ron Santo
April 16, 1972
In just his 4th major league game, 22 year old, Burt Hooton pitches a no-hitter against Phillies at Wrigley Field.  Cubs win 4-0, Randy Hundley drives in 2 runs and Ron Santo & Billy Williams each have 3 hits.  Hooton struck out 7 batters and walked 7 batters as well.
April 16, 1985
The Cubs continue a great beginning to the season going 6-1 with a 10 inning 1-0 victory over the Phillies.  Dennis Eckersley pitches all 10 innings for the Cubs giving up just 5 hits, 1 walk and no runs.  In the bottom of the tenth inning, Larry Bowa singles, Chris Speier bunts him to second base and Bob Dernier drives in the lone run of the game and the Cubs walk-off to victory at Wrigley Field.

April 16, 1991, 13 innings
4 Cubs relief pitchers pitch 6 2/3 scoreless innings relief as the Cubs defeat the Phillies in 13 innings on Damon Berryhill's walk-off RBI single scoring Shawon Dunston off Mitch Williams.

April 16, 1997
Cubs lose their 12th consecutive game, losing to the Rockies 4-0 at Wrigley.   The loss breaks the NL record for most losses at the beginning of the season.
April 16, 2003 
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs defeat the Reds 10-4.  Reds pitchers walk 10 Cub batters (Hee Seop Choi has 4 and Sammy Sosa 3).  The Cubs hit 4 home runs, 1 each by Sammy Sosa, Hee-Seop Choi, Damian Miller & Moises Alou. 

April 16, 2004
The Reds score 5 runs in the 6th inning to take a 9-4 lead, but the Cubs come back scoring 1 in the bottom of the sixth inning and 2 runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th.  In the ninth inning, the Cubs win the game with back to back home runs.  Moises Alou's HR ties the game 10-10 and Sammy Sosa's HR Is the walk-off for the 11-10 Cubs win. 

Alou's HR was his 2nd of the game and Aramis Ramirez & Todd Hollandsworth also hit HR"s in this game.

 April 16, 2007
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs defeat the Padres 12-4.  Michael Barrett, Mark DeRosa & Cliff Floyd homer for the Cubs.  Floyd drives in 4 runs. 

April 16, 2008 
Cubs score 4 runs in the 1st inning and 6 in the 3rd to defeat the Reds 12-3 at Wrigley Field.  Derrek Lee homers and has 3 hits and Geovany Soto drives in 3 runs. 

April 16, 2016
Jake Arrieta continues his amazing win streak from the end of 2015 (14th consecutive win) as he pitches 8 scoreless innings against the Rockies in a 6-2 victory at Wrigley Field.   Anthony Rizzo, Jorge Soler and Dexter Fowler homer for the Cubs.
