2003 NLCS
Florida Marlins vs Chicago Cubs

October 7, 2003
NLDS, Game 1
Marlins 9 Cubs 8, 11 innings

We should have known the 2003 NLCS was going to be a wild one after Game 1.  The Cubs strike early with 4 runs in the first inning.  MOises Alou homers.  Marlins hit 3 home runs in the third inning off Cubs pitcher, Carlos Zambrano and score 5 runs in to take the lead.

With the score tied 6-6 into the 9th inning, Ivan Rodriguez knocks in 2 runs with a single to give Marlins an 8-6 lead that lasts 2 outs into the 9th inning when Sammy Sosa ties the game at 8-8 with a long home run to centerfield.

Mike Lowell gets the game-winning home run off Cubs pitcher, Mark Guthrie in the 11th inning and the Marlins take a 1 game to 0 lead in the 2003 NLCS.

October 8, 2003
NLDS, Game 2
Cubs 12 Marlins 3
At Wrigley Field, the Cubs lineup continues to hit and Mark Prior pitches a good game for an easy Cubs victory. Alex Gonazalez hit 2 home runs, Aramis Ramirez & Sammy Sosa also hit home runs for the Cubs.  The series is now tied at 1 games each.

October 10, 2003
NLDS, Game 3
Cubs 5 Marlins 4
Through 6 innings, Cubs lead the Marlins 2-1 at Pro Players Stadium in Miami when the lead changes hands in the 7th and 8th innings.  Randall Simon homers home Tom Goodwin who had tripled, but for the
Marlins, Todd Hollandsworth gets the game tying RBI in the bottom of the 8th inning off Joe Borowski.  Borowski actually did pitch well in the game and helped this game get to the 11th inning still tied at 4-4.  In the top of the 11th inning, Kenny Lofton singled for the cubs and Doug Glanville tripled him home to give the Cubs a 5-4 lead. Mike Remlinger shut down the Marlins in the bottom of the 11th inng and the Cubs take a 2 games to 1 lead in the 2003 NLCS.

October 11, 2003
NLCS, Game 4
Cubs 8 Marlins 3

Cubs defeat Marlins 8-3 to take a 3 games to 1 lead in the NLCS.  Dontrelle Willis walks 3 Cubs in the 1st inning in front of Aramis Ramirez grand slam to give the Cubs an early lead.  Matt Clement pitches a strong 7 2/3 innings to get the victory.

October 12, 2003
NLCS, Game 5
Marlins 4 Cubs 0

Leading the NLCS, 3 games to 1, the Cubs blow their first opportunity at going to the World Series when Josh Beckett shuts down the Cubs allowing just 2 hits and striking out 11 to send the NLCS to a game 6 and back to Wrigley Field.  Cubs fans are hopeful as Mark Prior and Kerry Wood will pitch game 6 and 7 to try to get them to the 2003 World Series.

October 14, 2003
NLCS, Game 6

Cubs have a 3-0 lead going into the 8th inning with Mark Prior pitching a strong game and are just 5 outs away from a World Series appearance.  The Marlins Luis Castillo has a very long at bat against Prior and one foul ball down the left field line becomes the "Bartman" incident where a fan interferes with Moises Alou's abillity to make the catch. Prior and the Cubs collapsed soon after this incident.  A dropped ground ball by Alex Gonzalez and what looked like it should be a double play was also a very big play in an 8-run 8th inning by the Marlins.  The Cubs blow a great chance to make it to the World Series.  Kerry Wood take the mound in Game 7 the following night.

I know it's difficult to watch this game all over again, but MLB network did a good recap of the game interviewing Marlins manager, Jack McKeon and Cubs shortstop Alex Gonzalez.

October 15, 2003
NLCS, Game 7
Marlins 9 Cubs 6

After a very difficult loss in Game 6, the Cubs came out with a great effort in game 7, but Kerry Wood did not pitch well giving up 3 run on a Miguel Cabrera home run in 1st inning.   But Wood did help the Cubs come back himself when his 2-run home run tied the game at 3-3.
When Moises Alou gave the Cubs a 5-3 lead with a 2-run home run it looked good for the Cubs.  But another 3 run inning for the Marlins, capped off by a Derrek Lee RBI single, gave the Marlins a lead they will keep on their way to a 9-6 victory over the Cubs.   The Marlins go on to the World Series in a crushing defeat for the Cubs.
