April 5, 2015
Wrigley Field opens the season with a night game for the first time in team history. The team also unveils their new video boards. The renovations also had many fans waiting in lines to the restrooms. I know-I was one of them.
It was also the first opening day at Wrigley after the death of Cubs great Ernie Banks and the team had pictures of Banks all over the bleachers that were being renovated as well. It is also the Cubs debut of free agent pitcher,
Jon Lester. Lester pitched alright, but Cardinals pitcher, Adam Wainwright was better as he shut out the Cubs for a 3-0 Cardinals victory. Jason Heyward has 3 hits in his Cardinals debut and Matt Holliday drives in 2 runs for the Cardinals.

Jake Arrieta

April 4, 2016
I guess we should've known early on that it was going to be a good year for the Cubs as opening night versusu the Angels went so well.

Dexter Fowler led off the Cubs season with a double and scored in the first inning, got 3 hits and scored 3
runs in the game. Jake Arrieta went 7 innings, giving up just 2 hits as Cubs easily defeated the Angels 9-0.

April 2, 2017
A tough opening day loss for the Cubs in St. Louis. Jon Lester & Carlos Martinez both pitch very well as the Cubs go into the 9th inning trailing 3-0 to the Cardinals. Willson Contreras hits a 3-run home run off Cardinals closer, Sueng-hwan Oh to tie the game. But the Cardinals come back and win it in the 9th inning on a walk-off RBI single by Randal Grichuk off Mike Montgomery.

March 29, 2018
Cubs open the season in Miami and defeat the Marlins 8-4. Ian Happ leads off this game and the new major league season with a home run in a 3-run 1st inning for the Cubs. Anthony Rizzo & Kyle Schwarber also homer in the game.

The Cubs bullpen also pitches outstanding in this game. Steve Cishek relieves Jon Lester in the 4th inning and gives up the only hit the Cubs bullpen gives up over 5 2/3 of relief innings. The other Cubs relievers
in this game were Brian Duensing, Pedro Strop, Justin Wilson & Mike Montgomery.

March 28, 2019
Cubs open the season in Texas, as they defeat the Rangers 12-4. Cubs bats are silent early as the Rangers have a 2-1 lead into the 5th inning when the Cubs score 6 runs. The big hit of the inning was Javier Baez's 3-run home run.

Cubs hitters draw 8 walks in the game, 3 by Anthony Rizzo. Baez drivers in 4 runs. Kris Bryant homers and drives in 3 runs. Jon Lester pitches 6 innings to earn the victory in his 4th opening day start for the Cubs in his 5 years with the team.
