Charlie Root's 1-hitter against Pirates puts Cubs in 1st place.

May 3, 1930
Charlie Root pitches a 10 inning shutout for a 1-0 victory and doubles and scores winning run.

August 10, 1930
Cubs sweep a doubleheader over the Boston Braves at Wrigley Field. In game 1,   Hack Wilson homers 3 times and Charlie Root pitches a 3-hitter and in game 2,  Pat Malone pitches a 5-hitter in an 11-1 Cubs win.

August 27, 1941
Charlie Root pitches 8 2/3 innings in relief and with the scored tied 3-3 in
the 9th, Root hits a 2-run single as the Cubs defeat the Boston Braves 6-4 in
the 1st game of a doubleheader.  The win is Root's 200th career victory.  He
remains the Cubs all-time team leader in wins.
