A very good late in the offseason trade as the Cubs trade Bill Campbell and Mike Diaz to the Phillies for Bob Dernier, Gary Matthews and Porfi Altamirano.

May 24, 1984
In the 1st game of a doubleheader, Bob Dernier goes 5 for 5 with 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and an RBI  as the Cubs defeat the Braves 10-7 at Wrigley Field.

May 30, 1984
For the 2nd time in a week, Bob Dernier gets 5 hits in a game against the Braves.  Dernier scores 3 runs, steals 2 bases and drives in a run as Cubs defeat the Braves 6-2 in Atlanta.

June 23, 1984
Bob Dernier goes 3 for 5 with a double, walk, 2 RBI, 4 runs scored and a stolen base in the famous "Sandberg Game".  Cubs defeat the Cardinals 12-11 in 11 innings. 

June 30, 1984
Bob Dernier goes 4 for 5 with a home run, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base as the Cubs defeated the Dodgers 14-4.

October 2, 1984
Bob Dernier was the first Cubs batter to bat in a postseason game since 1945 and on the 2nd pitch he saw, he gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead with a home run.  The Cubs had a big day winning the game 13-0 and Dernier had a big game as well going 2 for 3 with 2 walks, 3 runs scored, the home run and a double.
