July 26, 1987 Hall of Fame Speech

My favorite quote from Billy William's Hall of Fame speech is the one where he mentions defensive plays in no-hitter's by Ken Holtzman and Milt Pappas. I never saw William's play, but this quote seems to epitomize William's low-key, selfless way. On the day that he has every right to be selfish, he mentions proud moments of being a team player for other player's big moments. Perfect!!

"And looking back over my baseball career, I can recall some great moments. Going high into the vines to catch a line drive off the bat of Henry Aaron to save a no hitter for Kenny Holtzman. (applause) Coming in to make a shoestring catch to save another no hitter for Milt Pappas." (applause)
