Bill Nicholson plays his first game for the Cubs.  He hits a HR in a 6-2 victory over Phillies in Wrigley

August 7, 1949
After losing the 1st game of DH to Braves 11-0, the Cubs come back to save a split in game 2. 

Andy Pafko's 8th inning, 2-run home run ties the game 3-3 and Hank Reich wins it in the 10th inning with a walk-off RBI single. 

Warren Hacker pitches all ten innings to earn the victory.

At Jerry Parc, Rick Monday's 2-run home run in the 11th helps the Cubs defeat the Expos 4-2 in the 1st game of a doubleheader.

Cubs get 2 big innings in both ends of a doubleheader to sweep 2 games against the Mets (8-6, 6-4).  In game 1, it's HR's by Keith Moreland & Ron Cey.  In game 2, it's a 5-run 4th inning.

One of the more famous 7th inning streatches at Wrigley.    Former Chicago Bear Steve "mongo" McMichael calls out the home plate umpire who made what appeared to be a bad call against the Cubs in the previous inning (I was watching the game, yes, it was a bad call).  And I watched the look on the umpires face when Mongo called him out.  Hilarious!!!!!!!!!
