Addison Russell, 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series Champion!!!
An amazing 2016 season for Addison Russell. He was named to his first all-star team and drove in 95 runs. Russell turns 23 years old in January 2017 so he should be a part of the Cubs infield for a long time!!

The Cubs home opener in 2016 was an exciting game. The Reds Brandon Finnegan was pitching a no-hitter into the 7th inning until a David Ross single. Later in the inning, Jason Heyward drove in the first 2 runs for the Cubs to cut the lead to 3-2.
That set the stage for Addison Russell to be the hero with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning. I can still remember the excitement when Russell clapped his hands together after watching the ball fly into the left field bleachers at Wrigley!!!
Hector Rondon shuts down the Reds in the 9th and the Cubs sing "Go Cubs Go" for the first of many times in 2016.

A note on this trade that may not be known is Dan Straily was later traded by the Cubs to the Astro’s along with Luis Valbuena for Dexter Fowler who was an important contributor to the 2015 Cubs playoff team.

Addison Russell’s Cubs Fantasy Baseball Profile:
Addison Russell is a very interesting fantasy pickup due to many factors. One, he wasn’t an above average hitter compared to other 2B and SS (Russell played the majority of 2015 at 2B before moving to shortstop), however this fact will make him sort of an “under the radar” type of pick for 2016. His defense is great so if you have any concerns about his playing time, I wouldn’t be that concerned. With many Cubs player’s, you do need to consider defense because manager, Joe Maddon will replace guys late that struggle defensively and will cause you to lose fantasy at bats for these players. Another advantage is Russell will turn just 22 years old in January of 2016. His hitting will improve over time and has already shown more slugging potential late in the 2015 season after working with Cubs hitting coach, John Mallee. As a Cubs fan that follows the team very closely, there are 3 guys that are virtually fixtures in the Cubs offense on a day to day basis: Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant & Addison Russell. This, to me, makes him not only a very good “under the radar” fantasy pick, but also a very conservative pick with very little risk.
